Overview
When you first start MetaTron and enter one of our asteroids
you are not more then a simple clone with an axe. To be
the one Tron out of hundrets you need to fight your way
through hostile worlds, earn experience and train yourself.
MetaTron is an Multiplayer-FPS-Survival game with focusing
on skilltree based char development and customization. On
different maps the player gets the control of a unique clone.
In every clone lies the ability to transmutate into a mutant
with special traits. Such as running faster or jumping higher.
This new kind of ranged and melee FPS mode, combined with
our other features do give MetaTron the opportunity for a
high long term motivation curve for our gaming community.
According to that it is and allways was the philosophy of
TubbyKiD UG (haftungsbeschränkt) to develop as close as
possible with the actual gamer.
Interview with Oliver Waldsachs by Peter ward
First of all Welcome to Retrogamesmaster.
Hello Peter.
First of all, would you like to introduce yourself? (or something like that)
Sure. I am Oliver Waldsachs, one of the founders of TubbyKiD UG and one out of five guys behind the game MetaTron® – an upcoming Multiplayer-Survival-FPS. (www.tubbykid.com)
What is your first gaming experience?
I hardly remember that it was olympic winter games on a commodore C64 with a 5.25“ floppy drive. I still can hear the „click“ sound when putting a floppy in.
What got you into programming games?
Actually, i am not a programmer, i am more related to all that designing elements.
The team what we have here at TubbyKiD provides us with a wide variety of characters. Everyone of us five has his special skills and abilities. Together we do work perfectly well – otherwise we won‘t have come so far, so fast. And we are always willing to do it best.
What development tools or coding did you use?
Obviously Unity3D (https://unity3d.com/) mainly. It is an awesome tool. And since they changed their pricing policies its a top choice tool for indie programmer. And i can tell you that we did wrote some tools our selves, which help us a lot to get this style into the game.
What hurdles did you have making your current game?
Hurdles, difficult question.
I guess the biggest issue is to let people know what especially we do have in common. We believe in our concept and tests had shown us that this type of game is a kind of its own. But in fact there is a huge market of indie games out there. Some of them are good, maybe phenomenal but most games are done without the right amount of passion.
After the completion of the game what game will you make?
I guess MetaTron can be a project that will have no predefined end. Cause we do have so many plans for our game and we hope that the community likes this it. We can do come up with several specials. Guess what will happen if you may have cars or additional maps in the game, or think of more skills for every mutant. That all should depend on our players. I can‘t tell you more about this idea at the moment but we want to have the player as near as possible to the entire process to ensure that we develop something with gamer not for him/her.
What other games have you made you made?
My latest project was: I worked with the team of Nanoo together for the App-Project DarkSword (https://play.google.com/store/apps/dev?id=5179235369549587043).
My favourite computer was my Amiga and console the Megadrive do you have a favourite?
Ha cool, i still do have loving memories of my old Commodore C64 in mind. Don‘t get me wrong, i do like what modern computers a capable of, but this feeling with retro computing is kind of its own.
What is your favourite retro game?
Strategy: Lemmings Adventure: Monkey Island II Action: Xwing vs. Tie Fighter
Do you still game on the current consoles if so whats your favourite game?
I am not a console player and i wasn‘t ever since. But when i need to choose a game i would pick Fallout.
Whats the worst game you have ever played?
Ecco the Dolphin!
What do you wish for your future and the future of you project?
For me in person? I don‘t need anything in particular by now. Funny story. it is is a dream of mine that there are one youtube that talk about the game. Even if the guy has only 5 clicks on his vids i would be happy. Nowadays that mean that people like what we do and like to talk about it. What i consider as one of the highest goods today.
For MetaTron® i hope we do have asked us the right questions. This Survival game has the potential to be a kind of its own game, for which we will mainly need the support of a beloved community arround the game.
Finally what game or feature would you like to see on Retrogamesmaster in the future?
Nothing in particular i guess. By now i can say that the actual „book store“ backround wallpaper irritates me a bit.
