Bombots

Overview

BomBots is 3D a retro-arcade action/puzzle game exclusive to iOS. With the help of a bot you design and upgrade, explore all five worlds over a total of 55 maps in three awesomely unique modes, each appealing to a different kind of mobile gamer.

What is your first gaming experience?

Apart from the classic 64 cliches (perfect dark, goldeneye, supersmash) I would have to say Call of Duty 4 on the PS3. I got the package bundle and never looked back. The game positions you in an incredible atmosphere and there are so many cinematic and adrenaline-filled moments. Something that hasn’t been replicated in the laters renditions.

What got you into programming games?

I was at university studying I.T. and I guess I got a bit bored; thought I could do more and decided to teach myself, set myself a goal and a project and the sense of accomplishment was worth it.

What development tools or coding did you use?

For the ‘BomBots’ project, we used the GM:Studio 3D engine alongside their standard IDE. It isn’t the best catalyst for projects, but their development community is very supportive.

What hurdles did you have making your current game?

Music. Time. Just so much time between this and other projects/university. Something that I really wanted to leave with the gamers as an impression was the atmosphere, I wanted it to be energetic in both look and feel, between the art, design and music I feel like that was achieved. Especially with the trailer.

After the completion of the game what game will you make?

I have a few things in the pipeline at the moment, just flipping through ideas but we will keep you updated. Maybe a moon-lander game or something that doesn’t come off as complicated as the current release.

What other games have you made you made?

Fun fact, this is my first fully operational industry-standard game. So, we are making history here.

My favourite computer was my Amiga and console the Megadrive do you have a favourite?

Dreamcast. Ahead of its time. It truly is the Grand daddy of what we have today. So sad it didn’t catch on.

What is your favourite retro game?

It would have to be a tie between the MS-DOS version of ‘Mr. Boom’ which was featured on arcade systems back in the 90’s (it’s where I got the inspiration for BomBots) and the very first ‘Spyro’ on PS1. Also, does Snake on the old Nokias count?

Do you still game on the current consoles if so whats your favourite game?

Favourite game? ‘Last of Us’ or ‘Uncharted 4’ hands down, it’s what am I playing right now. Also Mafia 3.

Whats the worst game you have ever played?

This one is easy: Anything from Ubisoft.
