You may have noticed when you wanted to play Metroid or Zelda on the original SNES console, and you couldn’t just load up eBay and buy the cheapest one. Old gaming consoles have become super rare over the past couple of decades, and their prices reflect that.
In 1990, the SNES was released, and in the months that followed, people who were lucky enough to own one had the opportunity to hold on to it as an investment. As the years went by and Nintendo released new consoles, the price of an original SNES kept getting higher and higher until it became impossible to afford one on eBay or at a local car boot sale.
Although they may not be as strong as they once were, gaming consoles are still pretty expensive. The Sega Mega Drive was selling for over £60 on eBay last week, and a Super Nintendo has been sold for over £100. If you wanted to get your hands on an original NES, you would have to shell out over £600 – that’s about $865 at the current exchange rate.
With that being said, have you wondered what tech you have lying around in the loft? The chances are you’ll probably have something worth a lot more than you thought. Broadband Genie created an infographic that shows what vintage and retro technology is worth these days. The graphic shows some of the most popular gadgets from the past decades, including the Apple I, worth over £250,000!
