I have been involved in the retro gaming community for about 5 years now, as an active member of many internet forums, helping out at big conventions and organising regular get togethers for local people interested in games.
It was about 3 years ago i came up with the idea of putting on a retro gaming sales fair as at the time most of the big conventions only had one or two gaming sellers, and as a big collector myself i wanted more variety and options to buy. I knew there were other people who thought like me too, so i set about putting on a sales only event with as many sellers as possible so there would be a wide range of items and prices.
The first event i organised attracted over 1500 people when we were only expecting about 400,the follow up event attracted nearly 3000.
It was then i decided to form my company Retro Events Ltd so ican put on more and more of these. I have organised 8 retro themed events in the last 10 months all in the Leeds area, where we cater for those wanting to play games at our Retro Games Nights, to those wanting to buy retro toys, comics and collectables at the ‘Collectorabilia’ and then the ‘Retro Games Fair’ which cater to gaming sales.
My next event is the ‘SUPER Retro Games Fair’ – This is the bigger brother of the “Retro Games Fair’ as it is over twice the size. There will be over 100 tables of retro gaming console, games, imports, accessories, micro computers, art, t shirts, bartop arcades, pixel bead art and much much more to buy.
The event takes place on Saturday 30th January at the Leeds Town Hall, The Headrow, Leeds, LS1 3AD.
It is open between 11am and 6pm and entry is £2 per adult and under 16’s enter for free when accompanied with a paying adult. Its the perfect event to spend those Xmas pennies and build up your collection, or start a new collection.
